Valores (Values):

-Commitment

-Integrity

-Service

-Collaboration

-Respect

Client Population:

- Ages 2-40 years old

-Majority of Dominican Descent

-Middle Class

-Men, Women and Children

Overview:

ASOID was created in the year of 1992 by mothers of children who had Down Syndrome. The organization has a mission and set of values they promote everyday. They agency has a plethora of programs to engage their participants. However, the main programs ADOSID focuses on are  Neurological, Physical and Educational skill therapy. The education needed to work at this agency is background in special education work as they want to give their clients the best care possible.

What is the impact of history, politics, and culture on the prevalence of the problem(s) the program or agency serves?

Due to the high rate of uneducated parents and physicians, Down Syndrome was very hard to diagnose within the Dominican Culture. Many parents believed they were either blessed with a special child or cursed. There was little to no research on the disability.
